Brake Service and Brake Repair

Making sure your brakes are working properly is critical to your safety. That's why it's so important for you to be aware of how your brakes work, and to be alert for signs that your brakes need maintenance.

There are several warning signs that your vehicle can give you before your brakes reach the point of potential failure or extensive repair. By simply using your senses of hearing, sight and touch, you will be alerted to potential problems.

Signs you may need brake service:
  • Does your brake warning light come on when you are driving?
  • Is your brake fluid low, or does it appear very dirty?
  • Do you hear a grinding sound or a squealing sound when you apply the brake pedal?
  • Do you feel a pulsation or some sponginess in the brake pedal when it is depressed?
  • Does your vehicle steer or pull to one side when braking?

These are the most common signs that can suggest a potential brake system problem that should be addressed. Any other sights, sounds or sensations in the brake system that seem out of the ordinary should also be taken into consideration. Most times, brake system problems will only escalate if disregarded.

Muffler/Exhaust System

Your car's exhaust is crucial to its performance. While the exhaust system is primarily designed to reduce noise, it is also responsible for reducing harmful emissions. A properly functioning muffler and exhaust system not only sounds better, it is better...for all of us.

Burke Centre Automotive takes pride in providing high-quality mufflers, pipes, and other exhaust components and offers a full range of exhaust service options.

Engine Repair

A properly running engine can not only save you money on gas but can also save you hundreds - even thousands of dollars in costly repair. The certified technicians of Burke Centre Automotive will perform a thorough inspection of your engine and determine the cause of the problem.

You may be in need of engine repair if your car is doing any of the following:
  • Engine warning light comes on
  • Engine knocks while accelerating
  • Gas mileage is lower than it used to be
  • Engine stalls or runs rough while idling

Suspension & Alignment

Many things affect how vehicles ride, including weight distribution, speed, road conditions, and wind. It is important under all these variables that the vehicle suspension system, including the shocks, struts and springs, is in good condition. Worn suspension components may reduce the stability of the vehicle and reduce driver control. They may also accelerate wear on other suspension components.

Replacing worn or inadequate shocks and struts will help maintain good ride control as they:
  • Control spring and suspension movement
  • Provide consistent handling and braking
  • Prevent premature tire wear
  • Help keep the tires in contact with the road
  • Maintain dynamic wheel alignment
  • Control vehicle bounce, roll, sway, dive, and acceleration squat
  • Reduce wear on other vehicle systems
  • Promote even and balanced tire and brake wear

Scheduled (Preventative) Maintenance

Burke Centre Automotive will help you establish a maintenance schedule and keep track of your basic car care.

Regular auto maintenance of your car is like health insurance for your transportation. Your vehicle needs regular maintenance to retain its safety, dependability, performance, fuel economy, and emission-control capabilities. Regular maintenance also makes sound financial sense. Lower-cost maintenance and service can help prevent higher-cost repairs. Regular maintenance will also help to prolong the life of your tires, brakes, and other vehicle components and systems.

Preventative Maintenance is the commonly used terminology because it helps to prevent costly and dangerous breakdowns and repairs. The maintenance recommendations for new cars are the basis of the manufacturer's warranty. The automaker warrants your vehicle against defects over the specified time or mileage IF the vehicle receives the scheduled maintenance. Your owner's manual is the best source for a list of maintenance services and the time and/or mileage intervals at which they should be performed.
