- Keeping your vehicle in good repair and keeping it on the road means taking
good care of the vehicle, and that starts with service you can trust from
Burke Centre Automotive. Our technicians have put together these car care
tips to keep you on the road longer while using less fuel.
- Get your car tuned up regularly. A car or truck that is out-of-tune or has
failed an emissions test typically suffers from a significant reduction in
fuel efficiency. Completing the small repairs involved in a tune-up can boost
your gas mileage by approximately 4 percent, while a misfiring spark plug
can lower your gas mileage by as much as 30 percent.
- Your vehicle needs air — so check and replace your air filters regularly.
When the air filter clogs with dirt, dust, bugs and other debris, your engine
must work harder and burns more gas. A clean air filter can improve your gas
mileage by as much as 10 percent and saves you approximately 15 cents per
gallon
- Make sure the oil used in the vehicle is the right type of oil for the vehicle.
Oils are sold labeled as “energy conserving” which means it contains
friction-reducing additives that will improve operations and fuel efficiency.
