Does Your Brake Pedal Feel Spongy?

Have you noticed that your brake pedal seems soft — almost like you’re pressing on a sponge? Spongy brake pedal is usually caused by air in the brake lines or hydraulic system, which leads to a brake feeling less firm when pressed.

Brake Service

If your car is experiencing spongy brake pedal, your car requires brake service. When a car is brought in for spongy pedal brake service, technicians must compress air in the brake system by bleeding the brakes. During brake service, technicians can tap hydraulic components to free air bubbles from the inner walls of calipers and wheel cylinders.

During brake bleeding, technicians check the fluid level in the master cylinder and loosen the bleeder valve. Technicians then fill the master cylinder reservoir completely after all the brakes are done and then check the feel of the brake pedal and expel any air still trapped in the system.

If your car is experiencing spongy brakes, bring it to Burke Centre Automotive for brake service. As an AAAapproved center for auto repair and maintenance, Burke Centre Automotive specializes in complete foreign and domestic repair service and has been serving Burke, Fairfax Station, Clifton, Fairfax City, and Springfield since 1996.
